Born Again Restorations (BAR) has been diligently building a Sikorsky S-38 amphibian aircraft. The challenge - to recreate the once famous airplane so it is able to fly round trip from Racine to the jungles of Brazil, replicating the expedition of H.F. Johnson Jr. |
Since no S-38 amphibians exist today to guide their efforts, every part of the aircraft will be made using only original blueprints. |
"This project is one of the most exciting I've ever been associated with" said BAR president R.W. "Buzz" Kaplan. "The Sikorsky flew a number of history making flights in the late 1920s and early 1930s. One of the most famous was Charles Lindbergh's 1929 inaugural airmail flight for Pan American Airways from Miami to the Panama Canal. And of course, Mr. Johnson's flight in the Sikorsky S-38 in 1935 was certainly a pioneering undertaking for a corporation." |
