One of the reasons SC Johnson has succeeded as a family-owned and family-managed global business for 112 years is its commitment to protecting and enhancing the environment and the social and economic health of the communities in which the company does business.

This commitment is exemplified in the Johnson family’s continued bond with the people of Fortaleza, Brazil, and the company’s concern for the educational well-being of the area’s children.

In 1963, H.F. Johnson Jr. transformed 8,500 square feet of warehouse space at the Fortaleza carnauba processing facility to classroom space and established Escola Johnson - a primary school that provided an elementary education to some 400 to 600 students between the ages of 6 and 12.
Today, Escola Johnson has more than 1,200 students enrolled and is working to expand its learning opportunities to children of high school age. The school already has special classrooms for students involved in apprenticeships and night classes for adult students.
